Aluminum welding
TASK:
Laser welding of 1,6mm thick aluminum plates with 8kW (2kW+6kW) ARM fiber laser and weld with following criteria:
- 15m/min
- Laser penetration can be observed from the back side of lower aluminum plate.
Test were performed using ARM laser and fixed optics.
LASER SET UP WITH FIXED OPTICS (ARM):
- ARM Fiber laser with 70µm center + 180µm ring QBH output cable
- Process optics with FC:100mm/FF:175mm
- Kuka robotic arm
RESULTS:
Al (thickness 1,6mm) welds were done in several power levels, speeds, and with/without process gas (argon)
Best results for Al welds were accomplished with ARM laser:
- Power: 2000W in Center beam and 500W in Ring beam.
- Speed: 15m/min (250mm/s)
- Process gas: Argon 15l/min
- Focus position: 0mm (at the top of upper Al plate)
Task requirements were fulfilled. Good results were also reached with 20m/min welding speed.

PROCESS PARAMETERS:
Power: 2000W Center + 500W Ring
Speed: 15m/min (250 mm/s)
Process gas: Argon 15l/min
